The competitions of the 4th edition of the Ministry of Interior Bahrain Tennis Challenger continued today amidst an enthusiastic atmosphere and a large audience. Organised by the Public Security Sports Association and the Public Security Officers Club, the 3rd-day matches of the tournament witnessed intense confrontations between top players who presented high skills.
Today's matches began with an exciting victory achieved by Canadian player Alexis Galarneau over Kazakhstani player Denis Yevseyev with a score of (7-6, 6-7, 6-3) in a match that lasted for more than two and a half hours and was filled with excitement and rivalry between the players.
In another strong match, Tunisian Aziz Dougaz defeated British Charles Broome in two sets to one (7-5, 3-6, 7-6), and the audience enjoyed both players' performances.
Russian Ilia Simakin managed to beat Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama (7-6, 6-4) in a close match between the two players, while Norwegian Nicolai Budkov Kjaer qualified after his Bulgarian competitor Adrian Andreev withdrew due to injury.
Hungarian Marton Fucsovics also achieved an easy victory over Colombian Nicolas Mejia with a score of (6-1, 6-1), confirming his superiority with a strong performance from the beginning of the match.
In another exciting match, Romanian Filip Cristian Jianu returned from losing the first set to beat Russian Petr Bar Biryukov (6-7, 6-0, 6-3) after an excellent performance in the second and third sets.
Hong Kong's Coleman Wong also beat Georgia's Aleksandre Bakshi 7-5, 7-5 in a tightly contested match until the final points, while Britain's Daniel Evans beat France's Benoit Paire in another exciting encounter.
In the doubles category, the duo of American Vasil Kirkov and Dutch Bart Stevens achieved a significant victory over the duo of Colombian Nicolas Mejia and Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama in two sets to none (6-1, 7-6) after an organised performance and clear harmony between the players.
The tournament will continue tomorrow with intense matches in the advanced rounds as the players seek to continue their journey towards the title.
The matches are expected to be of a high technical level amidst a large audience’s presence to support their favourite players.
On the sidelines of the third day’s competitions, the General Supervisor of the tournament, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, met with retired Serbian tennis star Janko Tipsarevic, who is considered one of the most prominent tennis players in the world during his professional career, having achieved his highest ranking of eighth in the world according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings in April 2012.
Both sides discussed global tennis development and the significance of such tournaments in supporting young players and promoting tennis in the region. Tipsarevic hailed the tournament's professional organisation and the developed sports infrastructure in Bahrain. He asserted that such events contribute to promoting Bahrain’s status on the global sports map. He expressed happiness about visiting Bahrain and attending the event while praising the high performance of the players.
Tipsarević won 4 ATP World Tour titles, one ATP doubles title, three Futures, and 15 Challenger titles. Tipsarević also won the 2001 Australian Open junior title. He holds notable victories over former world No. 1 players Carlos Moyá, Marat Safin, Lleyton Hewitt, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Andy Roddick, his compatriot Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray. His best results at a Grand Slam tournament were reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open in 2011 and 2012.
