The Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, asserted the Kingdom of Bahrain's support for the Kuwait Declaration on Disaster Risk Reduction during his participation in the Ministerial Meeting of the 6th Session of the Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Reduction. He affirmed the significance of joint work in facing challenges, crises, and disaster management changes.
He highlighted the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance regional and international efforts in disaster risk management and promoting public safety. He conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
The Chief highlighted that Bahrain is developing an integrated disaster risk management system by adopting strategies and comprehensive plans to promote local, regional, and international cooperation and coordination. For example, Bahrain has updated its data in the Sendai Framework Monitor, which offers precise information on disaster risk management efforts. The National Civil Emergency Protection Committee was formed to plan, coordinate and respond to emergencies and disasters. The panel developed a national emergency strategy to reinforce the Kingdom’s capability to face disaster and emergency risks, along with the National Civil Protection Platform to enhance public awareness of disaster risks and how to tackle them. He also highlighted that the Kingdom is dedicated to participating in regional and international training to build capabilities and prepare to tackle disasters.
Finally, the Chief appreciated Kuwait hosting this significant event and expressed gratitude for participating in the meeting. He also valued Kuwait's hospitality and highlighted the importance of working together to achieve common goals and build communities that are more capable of dealing with disaster risks.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Chief met with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Kamal Kishore, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in disaster risk management.
