The Director-General of Traffic, Major-General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Adulwahab Al Khalifa, said the General Directorate of Traffic processed more than 1,400,000 traffic transactions in 2024. He appreciated the wise directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for supporting programmes and initiatives to develop and improve government services per the highest standards. At the same time, he asserted that the directives encourage efforts to build a traffic system. He highlighted the support provided by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa to enhance traffic services and facilitate the processing of applications within a remarkable time.
He noted that the percentage of electronic transactions for e-services completed reached 81.1% through various electronic platforms, which reflects the interest of applicants in using electronic services without the need for personal attendance and, thus, the success of the General Directorate in providing service seekers with quality and easy-to-get services without the trouble of attendance. Among these services is reporting minor accidents via the traffic application, in which 87% of these transactions have been processed electronically.
He stressed that the development process is ongoing, with the continuation of the electronic linkage project with the Gulf countries and the offering of new e-services to speed up the pace of providing these services and ensure their sustainability. He pointed out cooperation with the private sector by opening new sites for technical inspection, as the number of centres providing technical inspection services for vehicles has reached 12 centres licenced by the traffic authority.
He noted that the General Directorate of Traffic's plan to enforce the law and raise traffic safety rates has contributed to a decrease in violations by -27% due to drivers' awareness. At the same time, community partnerships with various sectors have significantly enhanced traffic culture and awareness among citizens and residents. The number of beneficiaries of awareness projects among students reached more than 33,000 students per year. Comprehensive traffic awareness was carried out through the publication of 1,684 media materials.
He highlighted the dedication to applying modern technology in providing traffic services, which will contribute to linking traffic services with several governmental and private entities, including companies that offer traffic-related services, to facilitate and speed up procedures and enhance transparency and efficiency in providing services.
He stressed that such an approach comes within the framework of continuous efforts to improve the quality of government services and enhance digital innovation, which will strengthen the national economy and support the Kingdom's regional and international competitiveness.
