Northern Governorate celebrates Bahrain Sports Day

MOI

In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister, to designate half a working day for Bahrain Sports Day, the Northern Governorate hosted a sporting event. The event was attended by Northern Governor Ali bin Al Shaikh Abdulhussain Al Asfoor and Deputy Northern Governor Brigadier Abdullah Ali Rashid Maanter.

During the event, the Northern Governor unveiled a new version of the "Biggest Winner" competition, aimed at combating obesity and smoking. The initiative seeks to promote health awareness through tailored diets and physical activity, aligning with the Healthy Cities Programme implemented in collaboration with the World Health Organization. He further highlighted the competition’s five-year legacy, its inclusion on the WHO platform, and its inspiring success stories from the previous editions.

The programme featured an art exhibition showcasing sports themes, with contributions from individuals of determination, and a health exhibition offering medical advice on nutrition, supported by the Ministry of Health. Free medical check-ups were provided by participating healthcare institutions. The event also included sports activities, such as group exercises, walking, and a six-a-side football tournament, attended by a large audience and involving various Ministry of Interior directorates and civil society organisations.

At the conclusion of the programme, the Northern Governor acknowledged all participants in the health exhibition, competition winners, and representatives of sports and social clubs. He extended gratitude to the advisors and heads of the Healthy Cities Programme committees for their unwavering support.
