The Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science participated in the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs meeting in Geneva, which was held from March 7 to 14.
In a speech, he conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the National Anti-Drug Committee. He highlighted Bahrain’s dedication to promoting international security cooperation and partnership with all anti-narcotics authorities and global organisations, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
He stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain's active presence and participation in this major international gathering over the past years reflects the Kingdom's interest in and support for efforts to combat illicit drugs and psychotropic substances, confront their growth, and reduce demand for them.
He pointed out the Interior Ministry's efforts in combating drug supply. As part of the efforts, the Anti-Narcotics Directorate has significantly increased its arrests of drug dealers and promoters in cooperation with all relevant directorates of the Ministry of Interior.
He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain's government also seeks to strengthen its international relations to coordinate with various countries to thwart drug smuggling operations.
Bahrain's pavilion was opened in the exhibition accompanying the meeting's activities to showcase the Kingdom's distinguished experience and efforts in fighting illicit drugs.
