The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received some members of the National Committee for Human Rights and the Head of the Security Office of Kuwait Embassy in Bahrain Brigadier Bashar Al Musalam.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director-General welcomed the guests, asserting that the alternative sentencing and open prisons programme are part of the humanitarian initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He highlighted the instructions of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa to provide all requirements for the success of the programme.
The meeting highlighted the goals and accomplishments of the proagamme, including offering education and training programmes and rehabilitation plans to correct the behaviours of the alternative sentencing beneficiaries to reintegrate them into society. The guests toured the open prisons complex, including educational buildings that are equipped with the latest electronic systems, living accommodations that meet the beneficiaries’ needs, classrooms with integrated educational environment, sports club and carpentry workshop.
Members of the committee hailed the role of the General Directorate in the implementation of the alternative sentencing and open prisons programme. They asserted that this experience is an advanced model that reflects Bahrain’s commitment to the international human rights and reformation and rehabilitation standards. The guests were gifted items made by the beneficiaries at the workshop.
