The Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, Chairman of the National Civil Emergency Management Committee, asserted that Bahrain adopts a proactive approach to reinforce preparedness and competency in crisis and disaster management, per the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He praised the efforts of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, to develop national strategies for a more flexible society and enhance the capability to confront various challenges.
The Chief highlighted in a statement to mark the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on March 21 that the national efforts focus on updating the national disaster risk management strategy, including dealing with climate changes and cyber risks, along with a detailed plan to confront civil emergency that clearly defines the roles and responsibilities for swift responses.
In the context of reinforcing preparedness, the Chief emphasised the importance of expanding the scope of early alert systems and utilising modern technology to ensure that alerts reach all segments of society through multiple channels, including smart devices and various media outlets.
He emphasised the importance of developing disaster risk management strategies through community partnerships, implementing comprehensive community awareness programmes that include media campaigns, and integrating risk management concepts into school curricula. Additionally, he advocated for organising workshops and training courses targeting government and private entities, as well as civil society.
He added that Bahrain continues to invest in reinforcing its vital infrastructure through the implementation of projects that ensure service sustainability and the development of disaster-resistant building standards. Additionally, the country continues to manage and develop the National Civil Protection Platform, providing up-to-date data on risks and facilitating information exchange among relevant authorities.
The Chief stated that Bahrain is committed to conducting periodic exercises to enhance preparedness and disaster response while promoting regional and international cooperation through participation in global forums and signing cooperation agreements with countries and organisations to improve national capabilities.
He concluded by asserting that Bahrain places the utmost importance on reinforcing society's ability to confront and recover from disasters by building strong partnerships with relevant entities. He called upon citizens and residents to cooperate for a more secure community.
