The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
He hailed the Royal pardon that covered a number of inmates convicted in various cases, thanking HM the King for including some beneficiaries of alternative sentencing and open prisons in the pardon.
Per the royal directives to expand the implementation of the rules of the Penalties and Alternative Measures Law, the Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, in coordination with the Public Prosecution and after obtaining the approval of the concerned judge, replaced the penalties of 266 convicts with alternative sentencing upon fulfilling the legal conditions. Meanwhile, a total of 55 inmates enrolled in the first phase of the open prisons programme, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 8,278 since the programme's launch in 2018.
The Director-General hailed the support of HRH the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister in providing all the necessary conditions that would help beneficiaries integrate into society within an integrated criminal justice system. He pointed out that the alternative sentencing project, with its noble, civilised, and humanitarian values, represents a bright and honourable aspect of human rights in Bahrain.
He highlighted the follow-up by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa on the mechanisms and procedures to implement the project, ensuring accuracy, humanitarian, and transparency standards, thereby enabling the project to achieve its noble goals.
He thanked the government authorities, national organisations, and companies for their support of rehabilitation and training programmes for the beneficiaries. He stated that the continuation of development and the launch of new initiatives would lead to further achievements, enabling the beneficiaries to be fully reintegrated into society.
