Under the guidance of His Highness Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, a meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Brigadier Hamad Mohammed Al Khayyat, the Healthy Cities Committee with government and civil society representatives, was held to review Riffa’s progress in meeting World Health Organisation (WHO) criteria for Healthy City designation.
The meeting highlighted Riffa’s strong health and development infrastructure, community engagement, and sustainable initiatives, positioning it as a strong candidate. Presentations from the Ministry of Health and the Southern Governorate outlined the city’s progress and future plans.
The committee emphasised coordination with relevant entities to fulfill WHO standards and outlined steps to nominate the Southern Governorate under the Healthy Cities Programme. These efforts aim to promote public health, build sustainable and health-focused infrastructure.
