Director-General of Traffic Major-General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa affirmed that the GCC Traffic Week, which falls on April 13 under the slogan "Driving Without a Phone", is a key event to promote road safety. He noted its longstanding significance over the past 30 years and praised Bahraini drivers and residents for their strong adherence to traffic laws, reflecting the Kingdom’s civilised image.
The Director General emphasized the vital role of parents in teaching their children traffic awareness and ensuring their safety. He highlighted the importance of continuing this approach to raise responsible future generations, making everyone a partner in promoting road safety.
He added that the occasion highlights the strong relationship between road users and traffic officers, who collaborate to uphold road safety and protect lives and property. This cooperation reflects genuine community partnership and promotes a shared sense of national responsibility in achieving safety goals.
The General Directorate of Traffic, in collaboration with various sectors of civil society, is implementing awareness and training programmes aimed at promoting safe driving. These programmes target both vehicle and motorcycle drivers, focusing on educating them about Traffic Law, its regulations, and the dangers of risky behaviours—especially using mobile phones while driving. Additionally, the initiatives emphasize the importance of safety measures such as wearing seatbelts and helmets to prevent serious injuries.
