The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received Kuwait’s Acting Director General of Penal and Correctional Institutions, Brigadier General Saeed Ali Lootah and the accompanying delegation.
The Director-General welcomed the delegation, in which both sides reviewed cooperation, coordination, and exchange of expertise in alternative sanctions. They also discussed topics of common interest.
The Director-General emphasised that the alternative sentencing and open prisons programme is part of the initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to showcase the noble and civilised humanitarian values. He noted that the programme is followed up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He pointed out that the programme achieved remarkable and international human rights milestones because of the instructions of His Excellency Interior Minister General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and his dedication to adopting the best global standards.
The delegation visited the open prisons complex and was briefed on rehabilitation and services provided to the programme’s beneficiaries, along with the development stages of the penalties and alternative measures law since its endorsement in 2018.
The delegation also visited several locations where the beneficiaries implement alternative sentencing, such as the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre for Inmates, Salmaniya Medical Complex, DELMA MARINE Centre and Public Security Officers Club. The members were briefed on the integrated services provided to the beneficiaries.
The delegation commanded the programme as a distinctive national and international experience that is being implemented with professionalism and high quality. The members highlighted the significance of promoting cooperation and exchanging expertise in alternative sentencing.
