The CEO of the Financial Intelligence National Centre and Chairperson of the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing policy committee, Shaikha May bint Mohammed Al Khalifa led Bahrain’s delegation to the 40th plenary meeting of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), held in Amman, Jordan.
The meeting addressed various key topics to enhance the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing frameworks. These included discussions on enhanced follow-up reports for member states, committee and working group reports, and the exchange of best practices in line with the international standards issued by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
On the sidelines of the meeting, a workshop was held on substantial changes in international standards and preparations for the upcoming mutual evaluation round. Bahrain’s participation reflects its ongoing efforts to prepare for the process and strengthen its national AML/CFT policies.
