The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and the President of the Arab Open University, Dr Najma Taqi, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide specialised educational programmes to beneficiaries of the alternative sentencing project.
The Director-General affirmed that the MoU comes in implementation of the directives of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, to enhance and develop education and training mechanisms for alternative sentencing beneficiaries, to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Under the agreement, the Arab Open University will deliver academic and vocational training programmes designed to improve the skills and competencies of the beneficiaries, thereby increasing their future employment prospects and contributing to effective rehabilitation.
Both parties emphasised the importance of the MoU in fostering cooperation between educational and correctional institutions, thereby advancing the goals of restorative justice and sustainable community development in Bahrain.
