The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received Japanese Ambassador to Bahrain, Okai Asako, accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission Koji Kaneko.
During the meeting, the Director-General praised the distinguished bilateral relations between Bahrain and Japan, affirming the importance of the Alternative Sentencing Project and the Open Prisons Programme as pioneering national initiatives implemented as part of the comprehensive reform project led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also highlighted the continued support of the esteemed government under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The visit included a tour of the Open Prisons Complex, where the delegation was briefed on the advanced facilities and infrastructure, including state-of-the-art educational buildings, a fully equipped sports club featuring a comprehensive health centre, and dedicated areas for mental games and social interaction.
The envoy expressed her admiration for the level of development and modernisation at the complex, commending the Kingdom’s efforts in rehabilitation and reformation, which reflect Bahrain’s ambitious and pioneering vision in this area.
