The Customs Directorate of Air Ports Affairs, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, arrested three Asians upon their arrival at Bahrain International Airport for attempting to smuggle the narcotic substance marijuana.
The customs officers grew suspicious of the three passengers upon their arrival and directed them to the red channel. A thorough inspection of their luggage revealed over 10 kilograms of marijuana concealed in a sophisticated manner inside food product containers.
The directorate confirmed that the seized items were seized, and the case was referred to the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, which subsequently arrested additional suspects inside the country for their involvement in the case and for possessing over half a kilogram of heroin. The total street value of the seized narcotics was estimated at BD185,500.
The Anti-Narcotics Directorate affirmed that all necessary legal measures were taken and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution. It also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by reporting any information related to drug trafficking or dealing through the hotline at 996, the main operations room at 999, or via email at interior.gov.bh@996, assuring complete confidentiality of all information shared.
