Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Receives UK Delegation

MOI

The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received UK Ambassador to Bahrain Alastair Long and the Director of the Gulf Strategic Fund Programme at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Ian Cormack, along with their accompanying delegation.
The visit is part of ongoing cooperation with the UK Embassy in Bahrain, aimed at highlighting the Kingdom’s alternative sentencing and the open prison programme, and exchanging expertise in reform and rehabilitation in line with international best practices.
At the outset of the meeting, the Director-General welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasising that the alternative sentencing and open prisons initiative is one of the pioneering projects under the comprehensive reform programme of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and enjoys the direct support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with close follow-up by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
The meeting included a presentation of the initiative’s key goals and achievements, particularly the provision of training and rehabilitation programmes that aim to correct behaviour and support successful reintegration into society. The delegation also toured the facilities of the open prisons complex, including educational buildings, residential units, and the sports club, all of which are equipped to the highest standards to provide a comprehensive rehabilitative environment.
At the end of the visit, the British delegation commended Bahrain’s advanced experience in implementing alternative sentencing programmes, describing it as a successful model that reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to international standards on human rights, reform, and rehabilitation.
