The Northern Governorate, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation, organised an awareness workshop on the impact of mental health on physical well-being at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre. The event was attended by the Northern Governor Ali Abdulhussain Al-Asfoor, Director of Social Programmes at the Governorate Mohammed Zaid Abdullah Al-Zayed, several heads of committees involved in the Healthy Cities Programme; and a group of inmates participating in The Biggest Winner competition aimed at combating obesity and smoking.
The Governor praised the significance of this unique initiative, emphasising that it reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm commitment to human rights. He stated that advancing healthcare is an integral part of human rights, recognising that human beings are the true wealth of any nation. He affirmed that the Governorate continues its efforts to promote the concepts of healthy cities through the launch of awareness and educational initiatives grounded in scientific and community-based approaches. He described The Biggest Winner as a practical platform for fostering a culture of prevention and recovery.
He also expressed his deep appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation in organising The Biggest Winner competition for inmates, and commended the role of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait for supporting the competition, which contributed to its overall success. He highlighted that this type of public-private partnership embodies the slogan: “Health for All and by All.”
During the event, Dr. Dania Naji Kabli, Head of Mental Health and Addiction Affairs Division at the Directorate of Health and Social Affairs in the Ministry of Interior, delivered an awareness lecture. The presentation addressed the concept of emotional eating and its negative impact on obesity, as well as strategies to enhance psychological balance as a gateway to achieving physical well-being.
