As part of ongoing efforts to combat violations and ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing marine fishing, the Coast Guard patrols seized approximately 200 kilograms of Rabbitfish (Safi) in the coastal area of Salman Town. The fish had been caught using bottom trawling (karaaf), a prohibited method.
In two separate incidents, patrols also arrested two individuals in Sitra and the coast of Salman Town with a total of 394 kilograms of shrimp. The shrimp had been caught during the shrimping ban, using prohibited bottom trawling nets (known locally as koufa), in violation of ministerial regulations. Legal procedures have been taken in preparation for referring the cases to the Public Prosecution.
The Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing Bahrain’s maritime laws by continually enhancing its technologies and expertise to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the sustainability of fish stocks within the Kingdom’s territorial waters.
