The Executive Office of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management organised a five-day workshop titled “Developing a National Framework for Responding to Criminal or Unauthorised Acts Involving Nuclear or Radiological Material.”
The event was attended by the Director-General of Civil Defence, Brigadier Mohammed Ali Al Kubaisi, alongside representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and several Arab countries.
On this occasion, the Director-General of Civil Defence praised the directives of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, and his ongoing support for enhancing Bahrain’s civil emergency system and strengthening national capabilities in prevention, response, and recovery from radiological and nuclear incidents. He noted that such support serves as a cornerstone for the success of national efforts and the realisation of the strategic goals of the Committee. He also commended the follow-up by the Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management.
He pointed out that the workshop is being held within the framework of implementing the Regional Nuclear Security Strategy, reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing national readiness and institutional coordination to protect lives and property and ensure radiological security, particularly amid rising challenges related to the illicit or unauthorised use of nuclear or radiological materials.
