As part of efforts to enhance joint cooperation and exchange expertise in civil protection and disaster risk reduction, the Chief of Public Security and Chairman of the National Civil Emergency Management Committee, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, met with the Syrian Assistant Minister of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Ahmed Qazziz
At the outset, the Chief welcomed the Syrian official and the accompanying delegation, praising the depth of bilateral relations between the two sides, which provide a solid foundation for advancing cooperation in emergency and civil protection. He highlighted the shared objective of supporting efforts to enhance readiness and institutional capacity for responding to crises and disasters.
The meeting covered several areas of mutual interest, including the development of national risk analysis and management methodologies, the design and implementation of national drills and joint training programmes, as well as the organisation of specialised courses in civil defence and emergency response. The discussions also included technical consultation in preparing national civil protection strategies and strengthening institutional resilience.
Cooperation was also explored in areas such as community awareness, promoting a culture of civil protection, and building bridges with international organisations to benefit from their capabilities in supporting member states. Further discussions included the development of emergency response plans for hazardous and nuclear materials.
For his part, the Syrian official expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain for its continued support to Syria, commending the practical steps observed that reflect a unified Arab vision aimed at protecting communities and enhancing disaster preparedness.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Syrian official visited the National Centre for Civil Emergency Management and the General Directorate of Civil Defence, where he was briefed on the latest technical and logistical equipment supplied to the Civil Defence fleet. These upgrades reflect the Interior Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response capabilities and safeguard lives and property.
He also received a comprehensive briefing on security and public safety procedures, including preparedness plans, unit readiness, and proactive risk identification mechanisms. The briefing covered modern monitoring systems, the role of the Civil Emergency Management Centre in coordinating among relevant entities, and the enhancement of national capacity in preparedness and early warning technology, as well as strategic planning for comprehensive emergency management.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of Public Security, the Deputy Director-General of Civil Defence, and several senior civil defence officers.
