As part of ongoing monitoring of social media platforms, the Anti-Cybercrime Directorate has arrested a 36-year-old man for posting content on one of the platforms that targeted and disparaged a religious sect in a manner likely to incite sedition and harm civil peace.
In this context, the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security urged everyone to refrain from publishing or commenting on social media platforms in ways that violate the law and threaten civil peace and social cohesion. It stressed the importance of adhering to laws and regulations and upholding a sense of social responsibility when using social media and websites, avoiding the publication or circulation of any content criminalised by law.
The directorate affirmed that it would continue to fulfil its security duties towards anyone attempting to undermine national unity, stressing its determination to take strict legal action against anyone seeking to sow division, safeguard national cohesion, and decisively counter any attempts to incite sedition or destabilise security.
