As part of the Interior Ministry’s strategy to enhance community partnership and strengthen the civil protection system, the General Directorate of Civil Defence has launched the third phase of the foundational programme for volunteers in the service of Civil Defence. The programme aims to prepare support teams equipped with the readiness and capability to effectively contribute to national efforts in responding to emergencies and disasters.
On this occasion, the Director-General of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi, affirmed that the volunteering programme reflects the approach of the Interior Ministry, led by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, in promoting community partnership as a key pillar for enhancing the public safety and security system. He noted that attracting and integrating volunteers into the Civil Defence framework is a valuable addition that contributes to raising the readiness and efficiency of the national emergency response to various situations.
He added that the volunteering programme embodies the principles of national solidarity and translates the Interior Ministry’s strategy to build an aware society capable of cooperating with relevant authorities to address challenges and safeguard the gains of security and stability.
Supervised by a group of specialised trainers at the Civil Defence School, the foundational programme includes a series of theoretical and practical courses, such as first aid, firefighting, safe evacuation procedures, handling hazardous materials, as well as physical and mental preparedness training. This ensures that volunteers are qualified to carry out their field duties according to the highest standards of efficiency and safety, thereby contributing to minimising damage and protecting national achievements.
