The Interior Ministry announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security has arrested a 17-year-old for exploiting and luring several children into providing video recordings, using his social media accounts.
The unit explained that upon receiving a case from a parent, it immediately launched investigations to gather information and evidence, which led to the identification of the suspect. He was arrested after completing all legal procedures, pending referral of the case to the Public Prosecution.
The Unit emphasised the importance of continuous parental monitoring of children and increasing their awareness about the dangers associated with using social media platforms and other applications. It urged parents to ensure the safety of the apps their children use, and to guide them on how to respond correctly to any threats or risks.
The unit further called on parents to contact it immediately via its direct hotline at 33523300 or through the email address cpcu@interior.gov.bh if they suspect any activity that could pose a danger to children’s safety.
