The Interior Ministry announced that the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council, organised admission tests for inmates wishing to continue their university education. The tests were conducted under approved academic procedures and supervised by a specialised team from Bahrain Polytechnic, in line with commitment to upholding all human rights standards, foremost among them the right to education.
The Director-General of Reformation and Rehabilitation, Colonel Adnan Jumaa Bahar, affirmed that these procedures come as part of a series of educational and training programmes designed to support inmates academically and vocationally. He noted that the directorate is keen to provide all means to enable them to obtain university qualifications that will develop their capabilities and enhance their opportunities for reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
In this context, a delegation from the National Institution for Human Rights and the Ombudsman’s Office visited the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre to review the progress of the exams and the conditions of the participating inmates. They praised the efforts of the Interior Ministry and its continued support in enabling inmates to pursue higher education.
