The Interior Ministry announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security arrested two juveniles, aged 16 and 17, for threatening and blackmailing a 14-year-old child through a social media platform.
The Unit explained that upon receiving the case, the police immediately launched investigations, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security confirmed that the necessary legal measures were taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.
The Unit emphasised the importance of parents maintaining regular and close supervision of their children, raising their awareness about the risks of using certain social media platforms and other websites, and ensuring the safety of the content they access. Parents were also urged to educate their children on the proper ways to respond when facing threats or dangers.
The Unit called on parents to contact it via the hotline at 33523300 or by email at cpcu@interior.gov.bh, or the General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Electronic and Electronic Security hotline at 922 if they suspect any activity that may pose a risk to children's safety.
