Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, who also chairs the Maan (Together) Committee Against Violence and Addiction, received a delegation from the University of North Carolina (USA) led by Professor David Wyrick, as part of ongoing academic and research cooperation between the Interior Ministry and international universities.
The meeting reviewed the joint study conducted by the Maan Regional Centre for Research and Training and the University of North Carolina on the Maan curriculum for peaceful coexistence and countering extremism. The study showed notably positive indicators, reflected in students’ enhanced practice of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Post-intervention survey results recorded a marked improvement compared with the pre-intervention survey. He commended these outcomes, stressing that they represent an essential step towards promoting a culture of moderation and constructive dialogue in educational and community settings, and underscored the need to continue and expand the study to achieve further positive results.
The meeting also discussed the joint research paper published in the International Journal of Public Health, one of the outputs of the scientific partnership. The Committee Chair noted that the publication reflects international recognition of Bahrain’s research initiatives and confirms the Kingdom’s active contribution to supporting scientific efforts at the global level.
He concluded by affirming Bahrain’s commitment to deepening openness and cooperation with international research and academic institutions, thereby strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for research and training and advancing initiatives that promote peace and human security at both local and international levels.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Crime Prevention Directorate and the Director of the Maan Programme, Ali Ahmed Amini.
