As part of his official visit to Italy, the President of Customs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and his accompanying delegation visited the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency, as well as several customs centres and vital border points. The visit aimed to review best practices and procedures in customs operations, supporting efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise between the two friendly countries, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Bahrain Customs and the Agency last February.
The President of Customs and the delegation were briefed on Italy’s experiences in key areas, including the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, temporary admission systems, the role of customs in e-commerce, and participation in a dialogue on the contribution of customs to sustainable development through “Green Customs” initiatives. The visit also included an overview of customs laboratories and analysis facilities, as well as training on risk management and familiarisation with European Union joint targeting platforms.
The President of Customs emphasised that the visit underscores Bahrain’s commitment to leveraging advanced international experiences in the customs sector and enhancing its position as a leading regional hub for trade and logistics. He highlighted that such efforts support the national economy and the achievement of sustainable development goals, underlining the importance of continuing to exchange expertise with international partners to consolidate constructive cooperation and develop customs systems in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
