The Ministry of Interior announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security arrested a 22-year-old individual for luring and blackmailing a 13-year-old girl through a social media platform.
The unit explained that upon receiving a report on the case, the police immediately initiated search and investigation procedures, gathering information and evidence that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security confirmed that the necessary legal measures have been taken in preparation to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.
The Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit emphasised the importance of parents continuously monitoring their children and raising their awareness about the risks associated with using specific social media applications and other online platforms, as well as ensuring the safety of their digital content. It also urged parents to guide their children on the correct ways to respond when facing any threats or risks.
