Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science Major General Abdulaziz Mayouf Al Rumaihi took part in the Commission on Narcotic Drugs meeting held within the United Nations sessions in Vienna, Austria, from September 30 to October 2.
The meeting included discussion sessions on implementing all international commitments related to drug control policies, following up on the 2019 Ministerial Declaration in this regard.
Several topics related to drug control were discussed, including strengthening public health responses to drug use and prevention as a key element, in addition to addiction treatment and healthcare services, and addressing the rising number of drug-related deaths. The meeting also examined health challenges linked to drug use, such as infectious diseases and harmful health consequences.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Director-General participated in a coordination meeting organised by the Permanent Mission of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to the United Nations in Vienna. The participants discussed a number of public health issues related to drug control, as well as ways to enhance cooperation and exchange views.
