The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received Non-Resident Ambassador of Norway to Bahrain, Kjersti Tromsdal, and Deputy Head of Mission Monika Thowse, during their visit to the Kingdom to learn more about Bahrain’s distinguished experience in implementing alternative sentencing and its associated rehabilitation programmes.
At the outset of the meeting, the Director-General welcomed the Norwegian Ambassador, expressing his appreciation for the visit, which reflects Norway’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation. He emphasised that the Alternative Sentencing Programme is one of the most prominent characteristics of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's comprehensive reform project, which includes pioneering initiatives such as the Open Prisons Programme.
The envoy was briefed through a presentation highlighting Bahrain’s leading experience in implementing the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prison Programmes, as well as the notable achievements made in the field of human rights. The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in related areas, serving the shared interests of both friendly countries.
For her part, the ambassador expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to the leadership, government, and people of Bahrain, praising the distinguished experience she had observed and underlining the importance of fostering future cooperation between the two friendly countries.
