On behalf of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, the Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, participated in the 9th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Communications Affairs in the State of Kuwait Omar Al-Omar. The meeting was attended by the Chief Executive of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), Mohammed Al Qaed, and the Deputy Chief Executive for Operations and Governance at iGA, Khalid Al Motawa.
The committee discussed several joint topics on its agenda, including reports from the Executive Committee. It has specialised working groups on joint e-services, unified procurement, artificial intelligence, and digital safety services.
The meeting also reviewed Bahrain’s efforts in supervising the preparation of the unified GCC Artificial Intelligence Strategy and its work on finalising the strategy in coordination with the joint technical team, ahead of its official launch upon the committee’s approval.
Furthermore, the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government endorsed the general framework for supporting AI applications in public services, developed by Oman, which aims to improve the quality and efficiency of government services. The committee also adopted a framework for the Climate Prediction and Disaster Management Initiative, utilising AI technology, designed to address growing environmental and climate challenges.
The meeting also discussed the proposal to rename the Executive Committee for eGovernment to the Executive Committee for Digital Government, and to elevate its working groups to specialised technical committees. The members further explored avenues of cooperation with the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) to organise roundtable discussions that would serve as key platforms for exchanging expertise and insights on eGovernment, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.
In a significant achievement reflecting Bahrain’s digital advancement and institutional excellence, the Kingdom won two awards at the Digital Government Awards Ceremony held alongside the ministerial meeting and attended by Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The national eParticipation platform “SHAREKNA” secured first place in the category of Best Digital Participation Platform in the GCC. At the same time, the MyGov application received the Excellence Award for Best Comprehensive Government Application.
During the meeting, the Chief affirmed that, in line with the government’s vision and the directives of HE the Interior Minister, Bahrain firmly believes that joint Gulf cooperation in digital transformation is a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development. He stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with GCC member states to implement the new digital strategy and realise its ambitious goals.
He also conveyed his best wishes for the committee’s success in achieving its objectives and further advancing regional digital integration.
