In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to launch the National Tree Week for this year, and as part of the Ministry of Interior’s initiatives aimed at promoting environmental values and integrating beneficiaries of alternative sentences into community work, participants from the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons programmes took part in the activities of the National Tree Week.
Their participation included planting several trees within the Open Prisons Complex and in various locations as part of the National Afforestation Plan initiatives, enabling them to make a tangible contribution to improving the urban environment and the areas surrounding government institutions.
On this occasion, Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa affirmed that this participation represents an opportunity to change the stereotypical perception of alternative sentence beneficiaries and to highlight their positive role in society through constructive work.
He added that the continuous support and guidance of His Excellency, Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, have had a significant impact on the success of these initiatives and on enhancing the Directorate’s role in serving the community. He expressed his hope that such annual events will continue and expand to include more community entities and local residents, in order to achieve national goals of increasing green spaces and ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment for future generations.
