The Chief of Public Security and Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, met the UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, Khaled El Mekwad, Head of the GCC Emergency Management Centre, Dr Rashed Al Marri, and Syrian Deputy Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Dr Ahmad Aqziz, on the sidelines of the seventh meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Chief welcomed the guests, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, attaches great importance to strengthening regional and international cooperation in emergency management and disaster risk reduction, in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
He praised the support and guidance of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council. He noted that his continued instructions have contributed to enhancing public awareness, promoting civil protection concepts, and integrating modern technologies through a forward-looking vision aimed at building a smart and sustainable security system capable of keeping pace with global developments.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and coordination in disaster risk reduction, capacity building, and the development of comprehensive early warning systems to strengthen national and regional preparedness for various hazards. Participants also reviewed Bahrain’s efforts in developing its national civil emergency framework and its leading role in supporting joint Arab action in this field.
The visiting officials commended the excellent organisation of the Arab meeting and Bahrain’s commitment to advancing response and preparedness strategies, affirming their keenness to strengthen future partnerships that promote human security and sustainable development across the region.
