Man arrested for posting content undermining search and rescue efforts for the missing citizens and inciting public opinion

MOI

The Interior Ministry announced that the Anti-Cyber Crimes Directorate at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security summoned and arrested a 48-year-old Bahraini citizen for a social media post in which he questioned the search-and-rescue efforts in a missing-citizen case. The content was deemed to have incited public opinion, influenced the course of the investigation, and defamed official entities.

The directorate explained that the circulated content constitutes a violation of Article 245 of the Penal Code, as it involved spreading false information and attempting to manipulate public opinion. Legal procedures have been taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.

The General Directorate emphasised the importance of adhering to laws and regulations governing social media use, urging individuals to verify information before publishing, rely on official sources, and refrain from spreading rumours or inaccurate news that could mislead public opinion or affect the course of justice.
