The Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, in the presence of Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training and Secretary of the Committee for Countering Extremism, Terrorism, its Financing and Money Laundering, Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Harram, hosted a workshop on public-private partnership in implementing targeted financial sanctions. The event was organised by the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF).
The workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise among stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, while highlighting best practices to ensure the efficient and practical application of targeted financial sanctions and to address related challenges.
The event featured a group of experts and specialists from member states, who delivered comprehensive presentations on combating terrorism financing and the financing of proliferation, as well as on mechanisms for understanding, identifying, and assessing associated risks. Participants also discussed aspects of the international legal framework governing efforts to combat terrorism financing and proliferation, including United Nations resolutions and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.
The workshop further addressed mechanisms to enhance compliance and avenues for national coordination, along with discussions of operational and supervisory challenges and ways to address them, to ensure the efficient implementation of targeted financial sanctions and to reinforce national efforts to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing.
