Director-General of Verdict Enforcement receives UK parliamentary delegation

The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament as part of a visit aimed at learning about Bahrain’s pioneering experience in implementing alternative sentencing and innovative rehabilitation programmes.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director-General welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the deep-rooted historical relations and close partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, as well as the continuous development of bilateral cooperation across various fields, including training and exchange of expertise.
He affirmed that the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme translates the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and reflects His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s directives to uphold human justice and strengthen opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration. He also highlighted the ongoing support from the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the direct supervision of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa in implementing this national programme and enhancing reform-based justice initiatives.
The delegation was briefed through a visual presentation on the key stages of implementing the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme and the notable achievements of Bahrain in this field. The visit also included a field tour of the Open Prisons Complex, where the delegation observed the advanced facilities and rehabilitation, education, and vocational training programmes provided to beneficiaries,  including training workshops, educational halls, and a sports club, all of which form an integrated rehabilitative environment.
The meeting also discussed avenues of cooperation and the exchange of expertise between both sides, reviewed leading international practices in reform-based justice, and addressed several issues of common interest.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Director-General expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s visit, affirming Bahrain’s keenness to continue enhancing cooperation and sharing expertise with the United Kingdom in this field to support common goals. The UK parliamentary delegation, in turn, praised Bahrain’s efforts in developing its reform-based justice system and commended its pioneering approach in implementing innovative alternative programmes that promote the reintegration of beneficiaries into society.
