Kingdom of Bahrain takes over Vice President of MENAFATF Post for 2026

In a national and international achievement that reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s distinguished standing and reputation, Shaikha May bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, CE of the  Financial Intelligence National Centre and Chair of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Committee, took over the Vice President of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) post during the conclusion of the group’s 41st meeting.

This accomplishment reaffirms Bahrain’s prominent stand within the regional financial compliance framework and its commitment to supporting the implementation of the group’s obligations in accordance with international standards. It also showcases the confidence that the Kingdom enjoys from international organisations specialised in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

During the meeting, the cooperation priorities between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for the years 2026–2027 were approved. These priorities include enhancing member states’ preparedness for upcoming evaluation rounds, supporting efforts to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons, as well as implementing the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.

On this occasion, Shaikha May praised the role of the UAE as a strategic partner during this phase, affirming her determination to work jointly to strengthen the effectiveness of regional and international efforts to combat financial crimes and to enhance the efficiency of compliance and enforcement systems within member states.
