The Deputy Interior Minister, Lt-General Adel bin Khalifa Al Fadhel, headed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s delegation participating in the ministerial conference of European Union, Middle East, and North Africa countries aimed at establishing a regional political dialogue to enhance security cooperation. The conference was held on 13–14 November 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, with the participation of senior officials and heads of delegations from EU member states and countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
At the opening of the conference, the Deputy Interior Minister delivered a speech in which he conveyed Bahrain’s greetings and appreciation to the participants, praising the warm reception extended to the attending delegations and the excellence of organisational arrangements. He expressed his sincere appreciation for the efforts made to create a supportive environment for the conference, which represents an effective platform to strengthen regional political dialogue and exchange perspectives among participating states on security issues of mutual interest.
The Deputy Interior Minister affirmed that the conference constitutes a strategic platform for presenting innovative security initiatives that contribute to shaping an advanced model of regional police cooperation based on the principles of shared responsibility and international solidarity. He added that strengthening joint security action has become an urgent necessity to safeguard national resources and uphold state sovereignty, particularly amid the growing challenges posed by organised crime, terrorism, and emerging technologies. This approach aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to reinforce the foundations of security and stability and support sustainable development at both regional and international levels.
The conference addressed several key topics within the draft programme of work. It also included a senior officials’ meeting focused on discussing and formulating the joint declaration, as well as a series of dialogue sessions that explored prospects for future security cooperation between the two regions.
