The Director-General of Alternative Sentencing and Verdicts Enforcement, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received a delegation from the Moroccan Public Prosecution. The visit aimed to learn about Bahrain’s experience in implementing alternative sentencing and modern reformation and rehabilitation initiatives, and to exchange expertise in restorative justice.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director-General welcomed the delegation. He reaffirmed the brotherly ties between the two countries, which are evolving in various sectors, including justice, security, and law.
He highlighted Bahrain’s experience in developing a restorative justice system through the Alternative Sentencing Project and the Open Prisons Programme. He emphasised that this experience is part of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's wise vision, which focuses on promoting tolerance and humane justice values. He hailed the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the support of His Excellency the Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
The meeting included a presentation on the implementation process of alternative sentencing and open prisons, as well as their primary outcomes in reintegrating beneficiaries. The delegation was also briefed on the educational, professional and intellectual programmes provided by the open prisons complex.
The delegation visited the open prisons complex and was informed about the training and educational facilities, as well as the vocational workshops, which contribute to a comprehensive rehabilitation environment for the beneficiaries.
At the end of the visit, the Director-General expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted the strong ties between the two countries. He emphasised the importance of exchanging restorative, rehabilitative, and reformational expertise. The delegation expressed appreciation for the pioneering efforts in developing restorative justice in Bahrain, as well as the advanced Bahraini alternative sentencing model.
