The Chief of Public Security and Chairman of the National Civil Emergency Management Commitee, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, affirmed that Bahrain’s selection to chair the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, in addition to assuming the position of Vice-Chair of the Arab Technical Committee for Marine Disaster Reduction, represents a distinguished Arab achievement that reflects the Kingdom’s pioneering position in the civil protection system and in joint efforts to reduce disaster risks.

He praised the strong support provided by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, whose instructions have contributed to advancing the national emergency system, enhancing preparedness, strengthening coordination, and developing the institutional framework for civil protection.

The Chief explained that this achievement comes as an extension of the National Emergency Strategy, which is based on reinforcing regional and international integration in incident and disaster response, as well as enhancing national readiness and developing cooperation mechanisms and expertise exchange with specialised organisations, in support of Bahrain’s efforts to safeguard lives and property and maintain security and stability.

He stressed that Bahrain’s attainment of this Arab-level trust is the result of an integrated institutional effort that strengthens its leadership role in coordinating regional efforts to reduce disaster risks and supports joint action in this vital field.
