The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, announced the “Second Chance Award,” which was launched by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa during the First International Conference on Alternative Sentencing held last June. Registration will be open from 1 to 31 December 2025, with the winner to be announced in February 2026.
He explained that the award honours outstanding beneficiaries of alternative sentencing programmes who have demonstrated genuine commitment, clear capacity for positive change, and constructive reintegration into society. He noted that this initiative seeks to highlight inspiring examples of individuals who embraced their second chance and achieved success stories worthy of recognition.
He added that launching the award comes as part of the instructions of HE the Interior Minister to further develop qualitative initiatives that reinforce the human-centred approach within the rehabilitative justice system, providing beneficiaries with incentives and support to continue progressing towards a better life.
He concluded by emphasising the General Directorate’s commitment to advancing programmes and initiatives that empower beneficiaries to grow and reintegrate positively, calling on all eligible individuals to register, participate, and share their success stories with the community.
