The Chairman of the Permanent Tennis Committee of the Ministry of Interior, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, affirmed that Interior Ministry tennis player Ahmed Mohammed Al Sayed’s achievement of the Asia No. 1 ranking in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) under-16 category represents a historic milestone, being the first achievement of its kind for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC countries.
He praised His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's royal support for sports and athletes, which has contributed to Bahraini sports' outstanding achievements. He also highlighted the close follow-up and unlimited support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He further commended the continuous support provided by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, noting as well the follow-up of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of the General Sports Authority, and his role in developing the sports system and supporting initiatives aimed at empowering athletes and enhancing their competitive capabilities.
He added that this milestone comes as an extension of the significant support provided by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for the Ministry’s sports sector. He praised his interest in talent development programmes and his directives, which have had a substantial impact on enabling Ministry athletes to achieve distinguished results.
He explained that player Ahmed Al Sayyed began his sporting journey through the Ministry’s mini tennis programme in 2019, then progressed through the Ministry’s teams and eventually reached international competitions. During the 2025 sports season, the player achieved several notable accomplishments, including winning four Asian tournaments, an international title in Spain, multiple local championships, being named Best Under-16 Player in the Gulf, winning the GCC Championship gold medal, and participating with Bahrain’s national team in the Davis Cup as its youngest player, securing two singles wins and one doubles win.
