The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, extended his highest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the Kingdom’s National Day celebrations and the anniversary Accession of HM the King.
He praised the Royal Decree granting special pardon and releasing several inmates convicted in various cases, expressing sincere gratitude and appreciation to HM the King for including several beneficiaries of the Alternative Sentencing Programme among those covered by the Royal Pardon.
The verdicts of 481 convicts who met the legal requirements and criteria were replaced with alternative sentencing. In addition, 111 inmates were enrolled in the first phase of the Open Prisons Programme. Accordingly, the total number of beneficiaries since the implementation of the penalties and alternative measures law has reached 10,195, including 454 beneficiaries of the Open Prisons Programme.
The move was in implementing the Royal directives to continue expanding the application the law, following coordination with the Public Prosecution and after submitting nominations to the judge and obtaining the necessary approvals.
On this occasion, the Director-General commended the support and commitment of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister in providing the conditions that enable beneficiaries to integrate into society within an integrated criminal justice framework. He noted that the Alternative Sentences Project, which upholds noble civilisational and humanitarian values, serves as a bright and honourable example of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He further highlighted that His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa's follow-up on the mechanisms and procedures for implementing the project, in accordance with the standards of accuracy, humanity, and transparency, enables the project to make further progress and achieve its noble objectives. He also praised his instructions to provide the necessary services, rehabilitation, and training programmes as part of continued expansion in the application of the law.
The Director-General expressed his thanks and appreciation to government entities, institutions, and national companies for their support of rehabilitation and training programmes for beneficiaries. He noted ongoing development, modernisation, and the launch of new initiatives that contribute to further achievement and the effective reintegration of beneficiaries into society.
