To safeguard security and public safety, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science has arrested a 19-year-old Hassan Kadhem Abdulkarim and a 23-year-old Ali Ibrahim Abdulhussain in connection with setting a fire and attempting to bomb an ATM belonging to a national bank in Al Nuaim area in the Capital Governorate. The first suspect entered the site, poured a flammable substance and placed a gas cylinder in an act carried out for terrorist purposes, while the second assisted by conducting pre-execution inspection.
The Directorate explained that after the site was secured and the crime scene, forensic laboratory and relevant teams conducted inspections and collected physical evidence, investigations and enquiries were launched, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Investigations showed that the second suspect participated in inspecting the side and purchased the equipment used in the crime.
Further enquiries revealed that the operation was carried out through a distribution of roles between the two suspects, following planning, coordination and execution involving the detonation of a gas cylinder. The first suspect, who operates inciting accounts on a social media platform and a user of another inciting account linked to a terrorist organisation. Hassan Kadhem purchased two gas cylinders and tape to prepare them. After carrying out the act, he filmed the incident and sent the video to the operator of the inciting account. Relevant legal proceedings were taken, and the suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution. Search and investigation to continue.
