His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, chaired the Council's meeting on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and National Economy, Transportation and Telecommunications, Municipalities and Agriculture, Oil and Environment, Electricity and Water Affairs, Health, Information, Industry and Commerce, and Sustainable Development.
At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Minister of Interior welcomed the members. He noted that the meeting was part of efforts to enhance civil protection and public safety measures.
At its meeting, the Council reviewed the latest developments in the Wireless Alerts for Early Emergency Warning project. This review procedures, scenarios, the roles of government bodies, and strategic pillars of emergency preparedness and response, foremost among them national readiness and enhanced integration across relevant sectors, all aimed at ensuring public safety.
The project provides essential information to citizens and residents before, during, and after emergencies, representing a significant leap forward in emergency warning and public communication. It also guarantees that all citizens and residents receive emergency alerts within a record time.
During its meeting, the Council reviewed all necessary procedures and implementation work to activate the service in the coming period, following completion of the infrastructure and operational setup.
In this context, HE the Minister of the Interior, Chairman of the Council, emphasised the importance of testing the system in phases and defining its emergency areas of operation. He noted that the wireless alerts project for early emergency warning is part of the government's work and performance framework for adopting international best practices in civil protection and emergency management. This reflects the ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and residents and developing a digital infrastructure capable of addressing various emergency scenarios.
