Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, and President of Customs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with the accompanying delegation, paid an official visit to the United Kingdom to review advanced experiences in border management and the organisation of passenger traffic at official ports of entry.
The visit included the UK Border Force, where the delegation met Phil Douglas, the Director General. During the meeting, the delegation reviewed operational mechanisms at Manchester Airport, particularly procedures in passenger areas, and the use of digital systems and modern technologies, including electronic gates, to regulate entry and exit and enhance service efficiency for travellers.
The delegation also held meetings with officials from the National Border Targeting Centre (NBTC), during which mechanisms for utilising travel data, risk analysis, and the role of passenger profiling systems in supporting decision-making and enhancing security readiness at ports were reviewed.
The visit comes within the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to exchange expertise with relevant international entities and to review global best practices in border management and the development of port-of-entry operations, thereby enhancing operational efficiency, modernising procedures, and expanding the use of electronic gates in line with the highest approved standards.
