The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khaled bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received a delegation from the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, as part of efforts to exchange expertise and review the Kingdom of Bahrain’s experience in implementing the alternative sentencing and the open prisons programme.
During the meeting, the Bahraini experience in applying alternative sentencing and the open prisons programme was reviewed, highlighting the positive outcomes achieved in supporting social reintegration. The discussion also underscored the Kingdom’s humanitarian approach to developing a rehabilitative justice system.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on a number of issues of mutual interest and explored ways to benefit from this experience and advance practices that support institutional development and strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
As part of the visit programme, the Turkish delegation conducted a field tour of the Open Prisons Complex facilities, where they reviewed the integrated rehabilitative environment, education and training facilities, activity areas, and the programmes adopted to support social reintegration, in accordance with approved standards.
The delegation praised the advanced Bahraini experience in alternative sentencing and open prisons programmes, expressing interest in drawing on this model to support human rights principles and enhance social reintegration.
