The Ministry of Interior announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has arrested a 31-year-old individual for luring and blackmailing a 17-year-old girl through a social media platform.
The Unit stated that the case was received through the e-reporting service on the “MyGov” application. The investigation, search and evidence-gathering procedures were immediately initiated, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. Legal proceedings have been taken in preparation for referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
The Unit stressed the importance of continuous parental supervision and raising awareness among children about the risks associated with social media applications and other online platforms. It also underscored the need to guide them on the proper course of action when exposed to any form of threat or danger.
Parents are urged to contact the Unit through personal attendance, by calling the direct number (33523300), via email at (cpcu@interior.gov.bh), through the hotline of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security (992), or through the “MyGov” application.
