The General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, organised a sports event on the occasion of Bahrain Sports Day at the Open Prisons Complex.
The event was held in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to allocate half a working day for ministries and government entities to participate in Sports Day activities and encourage the practice of sport as part of community culture.
The event featured the participation of the Directorate’s personnel and beneficiaries of the Open Prisons Programme in a range of sports activities and competitions aimed at promoting physical activity and team spirit, sports culture, and supporting the social and psychological aspects of reintegration into society.
The activities featured several competitions that attracted widespread participation and fostered an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positive sporting competition.
On this occasion, the Director-General affirmed that organising such an event reflects adherence to the approach HM the King has established to promote sport as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle within society. He also highlighted the leadership role of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, through his support for national initiatives to promote sports culture, as evidenced by the adoption of Bahrain Sports Day. He further noted the keenness of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, to institutionalise the importance of sport within the Ministry’s policies and encourage personnel to regularly engage in physical activities.
At the conclusion of the event, prizes were distributed to the winners in recognition of their participation and sportsmanship, reaffirming the importance of sport as a way of life and its role in strengthening social cohesion and promoting a healthy culture.
