The Director General Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, extended his highest congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.
Within the framework of implementing the royal directives of HM the King to expand the application of the penalties and alternative measures, the Director-General said that, following coordination with the Public Prosecution, submission of nominations to the concerned and obtaining his approval, the penalty of 220 convicts had been replaced after case studies were completed and the legal conditions permitting the substitution of custodial sentences with alternative penalties were met. As a result, the total number of beneficiaries from the application of the law since its entry into force has now risen to 10,885.
He affirmed that the alternative sentencing project continues to receive the generous and ongoing support of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as an advanced, civilised initiative that reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm commitment to human rights and embodies its vision to develop the criminal justice system on balanced, reformative and humanitarian foundations. He also highlighted his keenness to provide a range of supportive conditions and opportunities for beneficiaries, contributing to their reintegration into society and enabling them to resume their lives in a more stable and positive manner.
He further praised the continuous follow-up of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, which has contributed to strengthening the project’s implementation mechanisms in line with precise standards based on transparency, humanity and discipline, in a manner that ensures the proper enforcement of the law and achieves its noble goals of rehabilitation, reform and safeguarding community security.
He affirmed that the successes achieved in this national file reflect the complementarity of vision between the wise leadership and the concerned entities, further consolidating the Kingdom of Bahrain’s position as an advanced model in adopting reform initiatives that strike a balance between the rule of law, respect for human rights and the promotion of social stability.
